Shari’s Story
“When I started painting with a pallet knife, I found a freedom in painting that I had not known before.”
I've been creating art for as long as I can remember, and these days I paint out of my home studio in beautiful Franklin. I grew up in Southern Ohio, but nearly 27 years ago my husband and I made the move to Tennessee and truly fell in love with the warmth and energy of the South. We raised our two amazing kids here (now young adults), along with more animals than I can count—we’re definitely animal people. I’ve traveled the world and while I love so many places, Tennessee has my heart… with Ohio always pulling me back for the memories.
Creativity has always been part of my story. I can trace it all the way back to elementary school, writing and illustrating my own little books at a Young Authors Conference, and later to airbrushing t-shirts and painting parasol umbrellas at Kings Island Amusement Park. I still love to write and publish when I can, and one day I’d really love to write and illustrate books again—it would feel like a full-circle moment.
Texture plays a big role in my work. I’m drawn to surfaces that feel alive, and I love building that through layers—palette knife, brushwork, and mixed media. When I first picked up a palette knife, something just clicked. It gave me a sense of freedom and looseness I hadn’t experienced before, and it really shaped the way I paint today. I’m an expressive painter at heart, and I love when you can see the artist’s hand in the work.
Over the years, I’ve been honored to have my work featured on TV and in magazines, and to license designs with companies like Kirkland's and Hobby Lobby. But honestly, what means the most to me is working one-on-one with people to create something that feels personal and brings them joy.
I studied graphic design at Miami University, earning my BFA from the College of Creative Arts, but creating has always been more than a career—it’s just part of who I am. I’m so grateful I get to share that with others. If you’re interested in bringing a special piece into your space, I’d love to connect.
